Obedience Classes

A Well-Behaved Dog: Priceless!

Upon registration for any of our classes, you will receive a detailed list of equipment.

Here’s a few things you need for every DogStars’ Obedience class:

  • All classes are held outside under our pavilion on canine astro-turf
  • If we are experiencing thunderstorms, we will cancel class (not because we might get wet, but because it is hard for dogs to focus if they are afraid)
  • Closed toe / heal shoes (i.e., no sandals)
  • A 4 or 6 foot leash (no flexis)
  • A buckle or martingale-type collar
  • Soft, yummy treats
  • Enthusiasm

Training classes are great for most dogs and we highly recommend you enroll your dog in a positive, reward based, training class as soon as possible – but only if your dog is “people and dog friendly” and just needs to learn the basics.

A dog showing signs of any behavior issues – including aggression or reactivity to dogs or humans, is shy, fearful, or just simply “out of control” with jumping, leash pulling, barking, door darting etc.- does not belong in a group training situation.

Not only do these dogs require specialized one on one training but you’ll find both you and your dog will get so much more out of one or two private training sessions than in a class situation.

Tricks for Treats!
Dogs love learning new things, and the sky’s the limit when teaching tricks! Wouldn’t you love to see your dog put away his own toys, jump through hoops or play the piano? Imagine having a dog that can fetch the newspaper, ring a bell to go outside or just sit pretty and wave hello. Learning and performing tricks enhances your dog’s self-confidence and can actually increase his ability to learn and think …and the more quality time you spend with your dog, the greater the bond grows between the two of you. This fun 6-week clicker class is open to all dogs and handlers, but dogs should already know how to focus on their handler, sit and lie down, and be friendly towards other dogs.
